Time and Score Keepers
NFL FLAG is rules intensive. As a result, it’s challenging to officiate. For instance, the referee(s) have to run a 48-minute Game Clock, a 40-second Play Clock, and a 7-second Pass Clock, all while officiating. It’s a lot.
In order to alleviate some of the challenges our referees face, we are introducing Time and Score Keepers to run the game clock and keep score. We need a parent or two from each team who can be the Time and Score Keeper for your teams’ Home Games. Each team has three or four Home Games. It’s fine to “volunteer on-the-spot” on game day.
GAME CLOCK
To do the Game Clock, simply use the timer on your smart phone. Each half is 24 minutes and halftime is 2 minutes. The clock stops for halftime, timeouts, injuries and the Officials’ discretion.
GAME CARD
To keep score, use the Game Card, which has all the game details. Here’s an example of a Game Card. Each Game Field has a Black Clipboard Box by the scoreboard, which has all the Game Cards for the day, for that field. Find your correct Game Card and clip it to the clipboard. Use tally marks in groups of five to keep score on the Game Card. Return the Game Card to the bottom of the stack of Game Cards after the game.
